Greetings from the edge,
I have been the very busiest of busy bees this week. I posted the first of my “Tropes Under the Knife” pieces, where I turn my perceptive and only slightly sardonic gaze on one of horror cinema’s most blood-soaked sacred cows: the Final Girl.
It’s already had a fair few eyeballs on it thanks to my people on the socials, but as always, if you haven’t checked it out yet, go ahead and click the link. It’s what Sidney Prescott would do.
I’m currently working on an article for Crying Is a Free Action about the humble quest giver and what happens when they are economical with the truth. I’m having a lot of fun writing it, and I’m hoping to make Wednesday my new deadline for posting new articles.
The Useless Fact of the Day seems to be pretty popular from what I can make out. As always, feel free to reach out and let me know what you think at robinbdevlin@outlook.com. The comments section seems to have been colonised by spammers at the moment, but I am treating it as a twice-daily game of cyber-whack-a-mole. It’s quite relaxing, in a way, like trimming a bonsai tree made entirely of spam.
As well as spending way longer than is advisable in front of a screen and eating my body weight in PEZ, I have been trying desperately to get myself started with a clear work schedule so I can start writing fiction again.
I keep running out of time, but I’m going to start carving out a block that, come hell, high water, zombie orcs, or Jason Voorhees himself knocking my door down, I will spend at my keyboard. Even if I just write “holy shit, I’m a fraud!” over and over again, I’ll give it a try.
The biggest thing is that I bloody well isolate the time.
Make it hallowed.
I’m also going to try and sort out the analytics for the site. I’ve got a new plugin that I’m working on getting up and running, which will hopefully give me a better idea of what’s working, what isn’t, and which bits of the site are quietly waving little flags in the fog.
See you in the margins,
