Greetings from the edge,
So, I have been very busy.
I have started to get into a new skirmish-based tabletop wargame called Death Fields Arena, brought to us by Wargames Atlantic. It’s free to play, and the models won’t set you back a week’s petrol money. You can be a cool kid and download the rules here.
The general vibe is that squads of the greatest warriors in history have been captured and forced to do battle in a hostile land. That’s how you can have a squad of jarheads facing off against Napoleonic-era French infantrymen, which is exactly the sort of nonsense I am here for.
Naturally, I went for the Bulldogs, basically a bunch of pith-helmeted Englishmen in bold, primary-coloured uniforms. It’s been a hot minute since I doomed a squad of little plastic men to their inevitable battlefield humiliation, and I’m really looking forward to getting them assembled, painted up, and ultimately cut to pieces by machine-gun fire.
I’m going to have my lovely boys cut the line in my pile of shame, and I aim to get them made and painted within two weeks. To be honest, though, it has been way too hot to paint lately, although I have been watching lots of painting technique videos and I’m very keen to crack out my good brushes.
My Sunday game is going well. I have a pretty major plot event planned, and a seismic reveal that I hope will land. I am also working on some Call of Cthulhu investigations for during the season break. Yes, I know I’m supposed to be reading Curse of Strahd, but I wanted to get to a nice memorable place to leave the Lore campaign.
I’m planning to share the Call of Cthulhu investigation as soon as I have playtested it, so expect that to go live in early August.
Writing-wise, I seem to have got lost in the woods a little bit while working on my novella. It’s one of those things where, if I’m honest, I am just doing creative busy work: endless plot frameworks, mood boards for locations, scenes, and characters. What I need to do is give myself a kick in the pants, apply arse to chair, and put hands to keyboard.
That’s what I need to happen.
What actually happens, we will have to see.
The new Useless Fact of the Day section of the home page is about a week old now and, judging by the scant analytics I have been able to glean, it seems to be doing reasonably well. So it looks like I have successfully made a rod for my own back again.
