Greetings from the edge,

I love my volunteer role at the local library. Officially, I’m a Digital Assistant. In practice, that means twice a week I sit there helping anyone who wanders in with whatever is causing chaos in their digital lives, whether that’s wrestling with the council website or trying to make sense of a phone or tablet. It’s genuinely rewarding. I get to help people, and with a bit of luck, it might even lead to something more permanent down the line.

The other day, I overheard a colleague at the counter say, in a bright, cheerful voice, “Oh, hello, I have Human Remains for you!” The little old lady she was speaking to seemed absolutely delighted. She was, of course, referring to the book by Jo Callaghan, but still, the image of this sweet old lady moonlighting as Igor amused me far more than it probably should have.

The latest article for Crying is a Free Action is now live, and I’ve been steadily removing all the AI-generated art from The Chop Shop. It’s turned into something of a crash course in Photoshop, but that’s part of the deal when you’re running a one-man band.

I’m currently working on a Top Ten Found Footage Films article. It has shape, but not quite form yet. I’ll give it until Friday before I start worrying. With ten articles now live on Crying is a Free Action, I feel like I can shift my focus to the horror side for a bit.

On the fiction front, I’m still looking for beta readers for The Bone Garden. With any luck, I’ll be posting it to critique circles like Scribophile by the middle of next week.

I also had a spark of an idea for my next fiction project while scribbling away with Meat Loaf blasting in the background: Bat Out of Hell… but sci-fi. There might be something in that.

See you in the margins,
