Greetings from the edge
Had an interesting few days.
I’m posting early this week because things have been pretty eventful, and my posting schedule might get erratic for a little while because of a few things happening in flesh space.
The day after I got back from my cruise, while I was still finding homes for the various knick-knacks I picked up on my travels, I got a call from the local hospital. A doctor had taken a look at my latest scan and become urgently concerned, insisting that I come in immediately and bring an overnight bag.
For various reasons that I won’t go into yet, it could not have come at a worse time, but they insisted, so off to the hospital I went.
After 24 hours of waiting, and after being told by various doctors that it was probably a false alarm caused by someone noticing the neurofibromas, which come with NF Type 1, a condition I have had since practically birth, I was sent home.
So, no harm, no foul. All it meant was that I spent a night in hospital for no good reason. Much hilarity when I finally got home, as you can imagine.
Except, a few days later, I got a rather breathless call from a doctor who said they had gone back over my previous MRIs and there seems to be a new lesion in the orbit of my right eye. Again, no big deal. I have NF Type 1. Tumours happen.
Also, I mean, there is no eye in there, so there is real estate to spare.
With fibromas, they tend to play live and let live unless they glom onto something important. The problem is that, probably to make abso-bloody-lutely sure this time, they went over both my most recent and older scans with a fine-tooth comb and found that my pituitary gland looks bulky.
So, it probably means I might need some form of treatment.
Naturally, I made the mistake of doing some Google-fu. Frankly, I have no worries about the fibroma in my right orbit, but the pituitary thing might explain some of my weight gain, my extreme fatigue, and a few other odds and sods. Let’s just say a worrying number of the symptoms sounded uncomfortably familiar.
This is all conjecture from an untrained jackass with access to Google at the moment, so treat it accordingly.
The useful news is that I have an appointment for blood tests, followed by a quick trip to a specialist, all in the space of a week. So I’ll have to snatch writing time where I can until this is all sorted.
I don’t really need speculation at this stage, but distractions, jokes, book recommendations, and general good vibes are all welcome.
I’ll update everyone when there is something concrete to update.
So, there’s that.
See you in the margins,
